Derry is sinds 1985 beroepsfotograaf, en ze rolde er zijdelings in. Ze werkte in een fotozaak, haar baas was voor een bruiloft dubbel geboekt en gaf die aan haar door.

In 2024 verliet ze een loopbaan van drieëntwintig jaar in het onderwijs om voltijds fotografie te gaan lesgeven. Ze geeft les aan beginners in groepen van maximaal zes, ter plaatse op het schiereiland en één op één via video overal elders, en runt de school samen met Caro.

Het eerste wat ik leerde, nog voor alle techniek, was zien en begrijpen hoe licht een foto kan maken of breken.

Zij beoordeelt elke inzending, en de hoofdprijs is een uur van haar tijd.

Wat is Last Light?

Een fotowedstrijd georganiseerd door Camstrap, waarbij de juryleden anoniem te werk gaan en er twaalf prijzen te winnen zijn. De wedstrijd loopt gedurende de zes weken in de herfst, wanneer het licht op zijn best is, en sluit op 15 oktober 2026.

Kost het iets?

Nee. Deelname is gratis, er is op geen enkel moment iets te koop en geen enkele aankoop kan je kansen vergroten.

Wie mag er naar binnen?

Iedereen van 18 jaar en ouder, waar ook ter wereld, kan meedoen. Je hoeft geen professional te zijn en je hoeft nog nooit eerder ergens aan mee te hebben gedaan.

Hoe wordt het beoordeeld?

Blind, by one judge. Derry Caulfield sees the photograph, its title, and the one line about where and when. She does not see your name, your email address or your follower count. She does read that line, so a country written into it is a country she sees. The light counts double; then the moment; then the craft. Her decision is final.

Heb ik een Camstrap-harnas nodig, of een specifieke camera?

Nee. Er is één categorie en die staat open voor elke camera, inclusief telefoons. Camstrap betaalt voor de prijs; het bezit van een product van hun merk geeft niemand recht op een plek in de prijs.

Kan ik een foto insturen die met een telefoon is gemaakt?

Ja. De juryleden zien nooit waarmee de foto is gemaakt. Telefoons hebben dit soort prijzen al eerder gewonnen en de criteria belonen geen grotere sensor.

Hoeveel foto's kan ik inzenden?

Three. Choose them carefully: once a photograph is submitted it cannot be changed or taken back, so enter when you are happy with it.

Wanneer was het toegestaan om de foto te nemen?

Tussen 1 augustus en 15 oktober 2026. Het moet uit dit seizoen komen, dat is het hele doel van de prijs.

Behoud ik het auteursrecht?

Altijd. Je geeft Camstrap toestemming om je inzending in de galerij te tonen en je naam te vermelden bij de bekendmaking van de resultaten. Als je bij de top twaalf eindigt, geldt die toestemming ook voor marketingdoeleinden van Camstrap gedurende twee jaar. Niets anders.

Is AI toegestaan?

Nee. Niet gegenereerd, niet uitgebreid, niet ingevuld. Normale bewerking, belichting, contrast, kleur, stof, rechtzetten, bijsnijden, is prima en is wat iedereen doet.

Can I change my mind?

An entry cannot be edited once it is in. If you want one taken down, write to benjamin@cam-strap.com from the address you entered with and we will remove it, before or after the closing date.

Wanneer hoor ik het?

De twaalf finalisten worden op 22 oktober bekendgemaakt. Het publiek kan tot 28 oktober stemmen en de winnaars worden op 29 oktober bekendgemaakt.

Wordt dit beheerd door Instagram?

Nee. Deze prijs wordt niet gesponsord, onderschreven of beheerd door, en is ook niet verbonden aan, Instagram of Meta.
